The Beatles had a famous hit about taxation titled “Taxman”. It was released in 1966 as the opening track on their album Revolver. Written by George Harrison, the song is a satirical critique of the high levels of progressive tax imposed by the British government at the time, which reached as much as 95% for top earners. Harrison’s frustration with these taxes inspired the biting lyrics and upbeat, yet sardonic tone of the song.
