The IRS issued proposed regulations on Tuesday, April 5th (REG-114339-21) about the affordability of employer health care coverage. Employer health care coverage will be reviewed for a premium tax credit PTC for family members of an employee to whom the coverage is offered.
Under the current regulations adopted in 2013, the way to determine eligibility for a PTC and health care coverage is through an exchange. This exchange is under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This Act has impacted millions of Americans. Among those impacted are families with children suffering economic hardship. In addition, the current approach has undermined access to more affordable health care coverage. This has been done by preventing access to lower-premium subsidized Exchange plans.
