IRS Stops Unannounced Visits to Taxpayers Homes

The Internal Revenue Service announces a big policy change that will end unannounced visits to taxpayers from IRS agents. This decade long program was cancelled mostly for the safety of taxpayers and IRS employees.
In place of the unannounced visits, revenue officers will mail the taxpayers an appointment letter, which is called a 725-B. Then the Taxpayer can schedule a follow-up meeting. This will help taxpayers have the needed documents and feel prepared when they meet with the IRS agent.
Moving forward, if a Taxpayers case is assigned to a revenue officer, they will now be able to schedule face-to-face meetings and bring the needed information and documents to reach a resolution.
In very rare circumstances, such as a court summons or subpoena, an unannounced visit may still be needed.
